Laura Wekesa

Laura is a passionate chartered marketer with over 15 years’ experience creating demand for products and services with a view to influence consumer choices. Most recently, she garnered experience on nutrition-based market approaches, community engagements and collaboration with government institutions across East Africa giving her a good understanding of end user solutions, relevant government policies and practices across various sectors. She also has an extensive background in the private sector in the field of demand and markets that gives her a wholistic view of different ways of creating demand. Besides her recent roles in health and market-based interventions to create demand, and together with her role as a mother, her desire to engage on issues about nutrition, both at home and in her work is sparked with a passion.

She has a proven record in designing and executing high-impact programmes that stimulate engagement and behaviour change. Leveraging networks and seeking partners from government and private sector to implement projects. She also served as the only female head of department for a listed company.

As a Marketing Advisor at Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN,) she provides strategic Leadership in design and implementation of the demand strategy for multiple GAIN Projects in Kenya and instrumental in the entry strategy for GAIN in Uganda. She champions the shifting of mindsets and preferences towards nutritious and sustainable foods through testing different ways of creating demand. In Kenya, she has been a key collaborator in groundbreaking demand generation approaches including the use of brands as an innovative strategy to address nutritious food choices among low-income consumers.
