James Gacheru

James Gacheru is a Technical Specialist – Food Systems and Nutrition at GAIN Kenya. James holds a BSc. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and an MSc. in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

His role involves providing technical skills to nutrition throughout GAIN’s project design, implementation, and evaluation stages in Kenya. James also supports the design, and implementation of the GAIN Kenya programmatic portfolio by ensuring the nutritional aspects of the programme is sound and within GAIN’s technical standards. In addition, James provides technical skills in the development and implementation of assessments and research agendas within one or more of GAIN’s programming areas. Part of his current roles includes supporting the implementation of the Food Culture Alliance work in Kenya.

He has extensive and varied work experience in nutrition and public health sector spanning over 8 years. In his previous role, James supported the Workforce Nutrition project implementation, as well as the successful implementation of the Commercialisation of Biofortified Crops Programme in Kenya.

James is interested in initiatives/innovative ideas and solutions that help address the nutritional and health needs of the society, and most importantly the most vulnerable groups towards a malnutrition free and healthier society for sustainable development.During his free time, James serves as a Junior reviewer (pro bono) for the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND) and has previously been engaged as a Junior reviewer of the UK based Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition. James is passionate about the environment and loves being in the fields, gardening and enjoying nature outside work.
